Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Sees High Placements at Coach Pollard Invitational

Bethlehem, PA. - The Montclair State University women's outdoor track and field team competed on Friday at the Coach Pollard Invitational hosted by Moravian College and saw plenty of high placements.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Leading the way for the Red Hawks individually was ABIGAIL CHURCHILL, who had the highest showing with a second-place finish in the 5000-meter run. She finished with a time of 18:19.39. Finishing behind her were BRIANNA RODDY (20:14.97) and JORDAN BOHRER (20:22.49), who placed eighth and ninth, respectively.
  • Also earning a second-place finish at the meet was the 4x100 quartet of MCKAY ALBY, AISHA GARCIA, MICHELLE ITOUA, and MAILE O'NEILL. They put together a combined time of 48.56, finishing just behind Ithaca (48.47).
  • TORI SUTERA earned herself a top-five finish at the meet when she clocked a 4:46.51 in the 1500-meter run.
  • TANIYA GILES earned herself a seventh-place finish in the shot put. She threw a distance of 11.84m (38' 10").
  • JULIA ACEVEDO notched herself two eighth-place finishes in both the 400-meter hurdles and the triple jump. Her hurdles time came out to 1:07.70, and she jumped a mark of 11.12m (36' 9.25") in the triple.
  • Rounding out the top-10 finishes were MICHELLE ITOUA, KENDALL HALL, and VICTORIA BERLINSKI. Itoua competed in the 100-meter dash and clocked a ninth-place finish of 12.79. Hall raced in the 100-meter hurdles and placed 10th with a time of 15.09. Berlinski threw a 28.23m (92' 7.25") discus.
  • Lilly Snyder and Izzy DeCrease were just outside of the top 10 in their events at 11th place. Snyder clocked a 13:13.17 in the 3000-meter steeplechase while DeCrease threw a mark of 26.60m (87' 3") javelin.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The 4x100 relay team currently holds the best time in the NJAC. It is also the third-best time in program history.
  • Sutera's time was not only the second fastest time in program history, but it is also the fastest anyone has done that event since 1977.
  • Acevedo's triple jump is the third best in program history, while her 400-meter hurdles time ranks eighth.
  • Boherer's 5k time of 20:22.49 is the third-best freshman mark in history, while Roddy cracked the top-10 all-time with her 20:14.97 in the same event.
  • Snyder's time in the 3000-meter steeplechase became the second-best freshman run and third-best all-time run in school history.

UP NEXT
  • Montclair State University will double up next weekend. They will compete in the Penn Relays and the Lions Invite on Friday, April 25, with the Lions Invite extending to Saturday, April 26.
