Five From Softball Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

Montclair, NJ – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced on Tuesday that five student-athletes from the Montclair State University softball team were named to the 2025 Academic All-District Team for their achievements both on and off the field.

SAGE RIZZI, LIZ MULLEN, KATIE BRUNNER, MOLLY COLLIGAN, and CHEYANNE WEIGAND all received Academic All-District honors.
 
The 2025 Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined excellence in athletics and academics. The CSC Academic All-America® program honors student-athletes across four divisions: NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
 
To qualify for the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in eligibility, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, and have played in at least 90% of the team's games or started 66% of them during the season.

Rizzi, a Psychology major, maintained a 3.81 GPA while appearing in 23 games and making 17 starts for the Red Hawks. She finished the campaign with a 2.88 earned run average over 109.1 innings pitched, striking out 67 batters. Rizzi led the team in complete games with six, with opponents hitting just .264 off of her. She concluded her career with 145 career punchouts, which ranks 12th in program history. 

Mullen, a Business Administration - Marketing major, started all 41 of Montclair's games while maintaining a 3.88 GPA. She notched a .392 batting average while slashing an OPS of .996, slugging percentage of .533, and on-base percentage of .433, which all ranked second on the team. In 120 at-bats, Mullen tallied 47 hits, a team-leading 13 doubles, 28 runs scored, and 25 runs batted in. She tallied 64 total bases on the campaign while stealing 17 bases.

Brunner, a Physical Education major, maintained a 3.76 GPA while making 38 appearances and 29 starts for Montclair during the 2025 season. She notched a batting average of .313, which ranked fifth on the team, while slashing a .760 OPS. Brunner tallied 25 hits, 11 RBI, 10 walks, a pair of doubles, and a home run during the campaign. 

Colligan, a Psychology major, started all 40 of her appearances while maintaining a 3.54 GPA. She accumulated a .250 batting average, .348 slugging percentage, and .327 on-base percentage. For the season, Colligan notched 23 hits, seven doubles, and a triple while driving in nine runs. 

Weigand, a Sustainability major, maintained a 3.91 GPA while appearing in 18 games this season and making 13 starts. She led the team with seven complete games, notching a 3.77 ERA in 77 innings pitched with 33 strikeouts. Montclair won eight games with Weigand in the circle.

Montclair finished the season with a 24-17 record, including a 9-9 mark in New Jersey Athletic Conference play. They played three games in their first appearance in the NJAC Tournament since 2022, including a 6-4 victory over Stockton.
