Women’s Track & Field Earns Two Medals to Highlight Day One of NJAC Championships

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Montclair State University Women's Indoor Track and Field team kicked off the 2026 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships on a high note, medaling twice to highlight Saturday's meet.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CHLOE BRIJBAG earned a silver-medal placement with her throw of 11.96m (39' 3") in the shot put. MAYA YESALONIS and Jelani Hernandez both placed top 10 in the same event. finished sixth in the with a distance of 11.50m (37' 50m), while Hernandez placed 10th with a mark of 10.42m (34' 2.25").
  • The other medal came from the 4x200 relay team consisting of MAILE O'NEILL, KAELYN RODRIGUEZ, AISHA GARCIA, and MCKAY ALBY. The quartet finished with a team time of 1:44.22 to earn third place and a bronze medal.
  • Montclair saw three of its student athletes qualify for the 60-meter finals. Leading the pack was O'Neill, who notched second (7.73), with Alby finishing right behind in third (7.82), and Garcia, who took fifth (7.92). ALAIA-ZANII TAYLOR was just outside of the qualifiers in ninth with a time of 8.07.
  • The Distance Medley Relay of BRIANNA RODDY, ALEXA ALI, ODALYS GUERRERO-DOMINGUEZ, and Lilliana Snyder earned a placement of fourth in the race. They clocked a time of 13:12.22.
  • In the 60-meter hurdles, ALICIA RIGGINS earned herself a spot in the finals next meet with a sixth-place finish of 9.65. KARINA ROMERO finished 10th in the hurdles with a time of 10.25.
  • ABIGAIL CHURCHILL represented the Red Hawks in the 5000-meter run. She finished with a time of 18:57.62, which was good for sixth place.
  • JESSICA HOLLER competed in the pentathlon today for Montclair. She completed events in the 60-meter hurdles (9.60), high jump (1.42m), shot put (7.26m), long jump (4.84m), and 800-meter run (3:01.36). She put together a total performance of 2544 points that placed sixth in the field.
  • CHARLEY KLINE and ZAIDA TAYLOR-BURCH each listed marks in the long jump. Kline marked a distance of 4.99m (16' 4.5") for eighth place, while Taylor-Burch placed ninth with a jump of 4.90m (16' 1")
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Brijbag became the sixth student-athlete to medal in the shot put and the first to do so three years.
  • This is the third time in four years the 4x200 relay earned a bronze-medal finish.
  • O'Neill tied Alby's program record in the 60-meter dash with her run in the preliminary round.

UP NEXT
  • Due to the incoming inclement weather, the second day of the NJAC Championships is set for Friday, February 28. The meet will start at 3:30 p.m.
