Five Event Wins Pace Women's Track & Field at River Hawk Showdown

Selinsgrove, PA The Montclair State University women's track & field team put together a strong night at the River Hawk Friday Night Showdown, taking home five events on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The 4x200 relay team of MAILE O'NEILL, ALEXA ALI, AISHA GARCIA, and MCKAY ALBY led the Red Hawks to claim their first event of the day with a first place finish of 1:49.39. Montclair saw another group take third in the event, as ALAIA-ZANII TAYLOR, EMANI BRADLEY, LANAJAH WOMACK, and ALLAHAJAH YOUNG-BEY clocked in at 1:52.44.
  • MICEL MARTINEZ took first in the high jump with a mark of 1.58m, with MAYA YESALONIS taking home another field event for the Red Hawks with a first place mark of 14.12m in the weight throw. SARAH LUMAS tallied a top five finish in the high jump at 1.43m.
  • Remaining in the field events, Lumas (10.46m) and MARYAM KARIYM (10.36m) placed third and fourth respectively in the triple jump. ZAIDA TAYLOR-BURCH took second in the long jump with a mark of 5.12m, with CHARLEY KLINE taking fifth at 5.06m.
  • Montclair tallied a pair of top ten marks in the shot put, as JAELANI HERNANDEZ (10.64m) notched ninth with CHLOE BRIJBAG (10.56m) right behind.
  • In the 60m, Taylor took the event with a first place finish of 8.03 seconds.
  • The Red Hawks saw two top ten finishers in the 200m, as Ali clocked in at 27.94 seconds to place sixth and Womack ranked ninth at 28.11 seconds.
  • ABIGAIL CHURCHILL rounded out the night with a first place finish in the 3000m with a time of 10:37.53. Montclair had two others in the top ten in that event, as LILIANA SNYDER notched sixth at 11:24.60 and JORDAN BOHRER finished eighth at 11:49.08.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Martinez, Churchill, Taylor, and the 4x200 relay team all notched AARTFC qualifying marks during the meet.
  • Churchill's time in the 3000m ranks second in program history, with Snyder's mark slotting in ninth. Lumas now ranks sixth all-time in the triple jump.
  • JESSICA HOLLER tallied personal-bests in the 60m hurdles (9.75 seconds) and the shot put (8.13m). KARINA ROMERO also notched a career record in the 60m hurdles at 10.32 seconds, with HANNAH OTTERSTEDT tallying one in the shot put at 10.13m.
  • In the weight throw, JULISSA OTTO recorded a personal-best with a mark of 10.30m. Bohrer's time in the 3000m also was a new career best.

The Red Hawks will participate in the NYU Division III Invitational on Saturday, February 14. The meet in New York, NY is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM.
