LAST TIME OUT
Baseball outdueled FDU-Florham, 12-8, in its return to Yogi Berra Stadium on Tuesday. The Red Hawks (7-3) retired the side in order to kick off the afternoon, and took the lead in the home half of the stanza with a two-out, two-run home run from CHASE FISCHER to right field. DANNY O'BRIEN doubled during the next at-bat, leading to another two-out home run, this time from JOHN TOMSHO to left center, to double the advantage for the home side. The Devils placed the first two runners on to begin the second, but ADAM ROSENFIELD punched out the next two batters and generated a groundout to end the threat. Montclair added to their lead in the third, as BILLY TIGAR came in to score on a passed ball. FDU-Florham cut into the deficit in the ensuing inning, as a two-out inside the park home run trimmed the score to 5-2. Montclair answered right back in their half of the frame, as CHRIS GONZALO kicked it off with a leadoff single and would come around to score on a double down the left field line from JARED LEVIS. After Levis took third on a stolen base, ZACH STEARNS drove him in with a sacrifice fly to push the home side in front 7-2. The Devils answered right back, as a hit batter and a walk led to an RBI single to push in a tally. After a fielding error loaded the bases, a single through the left side plated a pair of runs to cut the gap to two Following a pitching change, the Devils added another run on a groundout to make it a one-run game, and would equalize on a single through the left side during the next at-bat. Another pair of hits followed to load the bases again, with a groundout bringing in the visitors' sixth run of the inning to push them in front, 8-7. In the home half of the fifth, MICHAEL WANSAW JR. homered down the right field line to provide the leveler for the Red Hawks, who regained the lead later in the inning on an infield single from Tigar that brought in two runs. During the next at-bat, Fischer singled through the left side to plate Stearns and increase the lead to 11-8. LOGAN SHUMARD retired the side in order in the sixth, as the Red Hawks would generate two outs on the basepaths in the seventh on a caught stealing and pick-off. A fielding error from the Devils in the bottom of the seventh nudged the advantage to four for the home side, as Stearns came around to score. Shumard set down the side in order again in the eighth, and with two runners on and one out in the ninth, PATRICK TEEHAN entered the game and registered a pair of strikeouts to slam the door on the contest.
