Pitman, NJ- Announced on Monday afternoon by the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) office, Montclair State University baseball freshman DANNY O'BRIEN and women's outdoor track and field freshman MICEL MARTINEZ were tabbed as NJAC Rookies of the Week for their respective sports. They were honored for their performances between March 23 and 29.
 
O'Brien was sensational in Montclair's 4-0 week. The freshman infielder finished with seven hits, eight RBI, six runs scored, and two stolen bases. His highlight performance came during the second game of the Red Hawks' NJAC-opening doubleheader against Stockton, where he finished 3-for-4 with three RBI, three runs scored, and stole two bases.
 
Martinez made history on Saturday at the Ramapo Track & Field Invitational. She jumped 1.68m in the high jump to break the school record. That mark also sits as the third-best mark in the nation so far.
 
Martinez earns this honor in back-to-back weeks, while O'Brien earns his first weekly award from the NJAC.
