LAST TIME OUT
Montclair had its eight-game win streak snapped in a 10-2 loss against Ramapo on Friday, seeing a split in this season's series. The Red Hawks (28-8, 12-4 NJAC) fell behind in the top of the second, as a pair of hits and a stolen base put runners on the corners with one out for Ramapo. After a walk to load the diamond, a single through the right side broke the scoring open. Montclair halted the remaining threat by inducing a double play to get out of the inning. The Roadrunners added to their lead in the third, as a fielding error, a walk, and a hit batter would load the bases with no outs. After a popout, another error, and a walk would plate the next two runs to expand the lead to three. During the ensuing at-bat, a sacrifice fly would make the score 4-0 after two and a half frames of play. Ramapo tacked on another set of runs at the top of the sixth, using an infield single and a hit-by-pitch to put two runners on with two outs. During the next at-bat, a home run down the right field line would push the advantage to seven and clear the bases. The visitors notched a single up the middle and would take second on a steal attempt, with another hit through the left field nudging the score to 8-0.
LUKAS EGENHAUSER led off the home half of the frame with a single to right field, with
JARED LEVIS registering a walk during the next at-bat.
ZACH STEARNS moved the runners into scoring position, with
CHASE FISCHER loading the bases after being hit by a pitch. Ramapo escaped, however, with a double play to maintain the margin. Montclair threatened again in the seventh, with
MICHAEL WANSAW JR. punching a single through the right side, with
BILLY TIGAR and
CHRIS GONZALO loading the bases on a hit-by-pitch and a walk. For the second consecutive stanza, the Roadrunners induced a double play to preserve the lead. The visitors placed a pair of runners on in the eighth, plating a run on a single to center field. After a hit batter loaded the bases, a fielder's choice would bring in the final marker of the day for Ramapo. The Red Hawks got on the board in the home half, as
MATT KALISKE singled to score
JOEY NOLAN from second base. After a wild pitch moved
VINNY AGNELLO into scoring position,
BRODY DIERS tallied a pinch-hit single to cut the difference to eight. Montclair could not get closer, however, as the Roadrunners would seal the victory shortly after.
