From 1983-9186, Dan Zakashefski was am integral member of the Montclair State football team. A team that, in that era, had a record of 34-9-1. A team that allowed an average of only 12 points per game over that four-year span. A team that won 18 consecutive conference games and established a 23-1 record in the NJAC while he was on the field. In his sophomore season he tallied 45 tackles and had eight sacks to earn Honorable Mention All-NJSAC honors. In 1985, he anchored MSU’s nationally-ranked defense, a “D” that held its opponents to under 13 points per game and registered four shutouts. The then-named Indians had a 10-2 reocrd and advanced to the NCAA East Region Final. That year, Zakashefski tackled 70 opposing ball carriers and had 14 sacks which at the time was the second-highest single season total in Montclair history. Following that season he was voted to the Kodak All-American squad and earned a spot on the All-NJAC First Team. His senior season, he followed up on his All-American year with an even better performance. He totaled 74 tackles, and once again led Montclair in sacks with six. He was named to the Kodak All-American Team for a second consecutive year. In his four-year career, Zakashefski registered over 100 solo tackles and 194 total tackles as well a 28 sacks.
