Considered one of the finest players to ever wear a Red Hawks men's soccer unfiorm, Gus Moramarco was one of the cornerstones of Montclair State's program that took a huge step forward in the late 1980s and became a force on the Division III level not only on the regional level but on the national level as well. As a freshman, Moramarco made an immediate impact helping Montclair to a 17-4-2 record, setting the school record for wins and capturing the ECAC Division III Metro Championship. Named the Freshman Athlete of the Year that season, Moramarco scored seven goals and 20 points finishing fourth on the team while recording three game-winning goals. He was just getting started. The following year Moramarco helped the Red Hawks to greater heights as Montclair captured its first NJAC championship and earned a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament where it upset No. 2 Muhlenberg before falling to eventual national champion Elizabethtown. In 1990, injuries slowed down Moramarco however he still managed five goals and 15 points as the Red Hawks returned to the NCAA Tournament. In his senior season of 1991, Moramarco, named team captain, finished off his career with three goals and 12 assists as the Montclair reached its third straight NCAA Tournament. He was named a Regional All-American and finished his career as the fifth all-time leader in points scored (67) and second in assists (29). During his career, the Red Hawks posted a 61-20-4 record and made the post-season each season. He was a four-time All-NJAC selection and a three-time pick by the College Soccer Association of New Jersey (1989-91). He was also chosen as the team's Most Valuable Offensive Player in 1990 and Most Valuable Player in 1991.
