He has been called by his coach “one of the top three players in the history of the program”. That statement alone speaks volumes on how good a player Marlon Pollard was for the Montclair State men’s soccer program. An outstanding midfielder during the mid 1990s, Pollard started all four seasons he wore an MSU uniform helping the Red Hawks return to the national stage. As a freshman in 1995, Pollard appeared in 21 games, scoring eight goals and assisting on three others as Montclair State reached the championship game of the ECAC Metro Tournament. The following season, Pollard and the Red Hawks returned to the NCAA stage as MSU put together an 11-game unbeaten streak and earned its first berth into the national tournament in four years. Pollard earned the first of his three First-Team New Jersey Athletic Conference honors. The 1997 campaign saw Pollard record a career-best nine assists as Montclair returned to the ECAC title game. Pollard was named First-Team All-NJAC again but this time added another award to his resume as he was selected as a Regional All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
