Pruden is one of the all-time great pitchers in the long and rich tradition of Montclair State baseball. He held the record for most victories in one season when the ace posted an 11-2 mark in 1966 as he was named the Most Valuable Player of the team. That was a significant season, Montclair's only in NAIA Tournament Competition as the squad finished a fine season with 20 wins (20-4). In the course of that season, Pruden had an excellent earned run average of 1.13. As a junior, Pruden was 5-2 with a 2.47 ERA while as a sophomore he was 5-1 with a 1.52 ERA. He was three times named to the All-Conference Team and as a senior won NAIA All-America honors.
