Thomas Bowers is arguably the finest goalkeeper in the history of the men's lacrosse program. No one saved more shots or won more games between the pipes than Bowers, a three-time All-Skyline Conference selection, including the league's Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009. Bowers began his career stopping 35 shots against Whittier College and ended his first season with 921 saves, an 8.82 goals against average, and .619 save percentage. Bowers registered a record of 44-24 in 70 career games and finished as the all-time leader in saves, wins, minutes played (3862:18) and games played (70). In 2008, Bowers was named the Skyline Player of the Year and the ECAC Metro/South Goalkeeper of the Year after helping the Red Hawks to the Skyline Conference Championship Game. He led the league in goals against average (6.75) and save percentage (.646) ranking 11th and ninth respectively in Division III in those categories. Bowers became the all-time leader MSU in saves with his 657th in Montclair's Skyline Tournament semifinal win over Stockton. He closed out his career with a flourish in 2009 leading the Red Hawks to their first conference championship in over a decade as well as Montclair's first appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship. He repeated as Skyline Conference Player of the Year and added another award – USILA Division III All-American, becoming the first player at Montclair State to receive that honor.
