Joseph Staub was named the Montclair State Outstanding Athlete of 1963, after earning All-Conference honors in both soccer and baseball for two consecutive years. In baseball, Staub won four varsity letters and starred as a pitcher. In his senior year, he posted a perfect 5-0 record as he held the Indians to a 15-6 record. His efforts that season earned him the Charles P. Turek Award. As a junior, Staub had a pitching mark of 4-1 and had been 3-0 with an outstanding 0.34 ERA as a sophomore when the Indians compiled a 15-3 slate. On the soccer field, Joe played center-halfback and aptained the 1962 squad that went 7-5-1 , winning five of its last six games. He scored two goals that season, gaining his third varsity soccer letter.
