In three years at Montclair, Richard Waller became a record holder many times over, playing both fall and spring baseball from 1972-1975. In his freshman year he set his first season records with the most strikeouts at 81 and earned an honorable mention status on both the New Jersey College Division All-State and the New Jersey State College Conference All-Stars. The following year he set three season records, one single-game record (17 strikeouts) and tied the record for complete game with nine. He earned berths on the New Jersey College Division All-State team and the New Jersey State College Conference All-Stars. By the end of his final year he set a fifth season record as well as tying his own record for complete games and the record for victories (10). He again placed himself on the NJ College Division All-State Team and the NJSC All-Starts and added a third as he was selected to the World Series College Division All-Stars.
