Patson earned seven varsity letters, four in baseball and three in basketball all on strong post-war teams. As a senior, Patson co-captained the baseball team and the steady pitcher won his first four decisions before dropping the finale in a 10-3-1 MSC season. On the basketball court, George was a freshman starter, and had the third-best scoring average on the varsity. Injuries curtailed his play, but he contributed mightily to the outstanding cage team of 1948-49. He was an integral part of the club that went 18-2 for Alden Coder. The .900 winning percentage was the best in school history as the club lost only two games, each by two points. Following graduation, Patson returned to the U.S. Air Force and went on to complete 26 years of active service in 1970, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
