At 6-2, 265 pounds in college, Tom Morton was small for an offensive lineman, judged by today’s standards. However he may have been the biggest to ever play the position at Montclair State. Although it is difficult, from a statistical standpoint, to list all of Morton’s accomplishments on the football field, it is not hard to find the respect he garnered by opposing coaches, peers, and judging bodies of the many post-season all-star squads that are announced at the end of the season. Breaking into the starting lineup as a freshman in 1976, Morton was an immediate force as he was named to the New Jersey Athletic Conference First Team at tackle. Over the next three seasons Morton was named to the same All-Star team as his reputation grew as a premier offensive lineman. It was not until his senior year however that Morton was named First-Team All-NJAC, First-Team All-East Coast and then a consensus All-American pick on both the Co-SIDA and Kodak squads in 1979. Morton was also named the offensive captain and team's MVP for the 1979 season.
