    Football, Baseball - Coach
A legend in his own time before he came to Montclair State, Clary Anderson coached the Indians in football and baseball for seven years and enjoyed unparalleled success. The Indians, in football, under the magical Anderson touch were 49-18-1 for an amazing .731 winning percentage. In 1970 the Indians became the first college football team in New Jersey to post a victory in a postseason bowl game when they downed Hampden-Sydney, 7-6 in the Knute Rockne Bowl at Convention Hall in Atlantic City. Montclair dominated the New Jersey State College Conference in football. Anderson’s teams were 25-1-1 and won five outright titles and shared the crown once. Anderson’s baseball figures were just as good. His overall record shows 140 wins and 53 losses. The Indians twice appeared in the final round of the College World Series. The Montclair State record in the NJSCAC in baseball was just amazing with 59 wins, 12 losses and six championships. Anderson developed more NJSCAC all-star selections in football and baseball, including Paul Mirabella, who went on the pitch in Major Leagues  with six different clubs, including the Texas Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers.
