Hall of Fame
Here is the one statistic that pretty much sums up the career Tracey Brown put together. In Montclair State basketball history - men and women - only one other person has scored more points, Carol Blazejowski, who is member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Brown came to Upper Montclair in 1979 and it didn’t take long for people to notice. In her first season with Montclair, Brown was the leading scorer on a team that still featured several veterans from that AIAW Final Four Team two seasons prior, averaging 12.5 points per game while adding 61 assists, 52 steals and 17 blocked shots. She was named to the Women’s Basketball News Service Freshman All-America Team. The following year, she became just the second player in program history to score over 500 points as she averaged 20.0 points per game along with 95 assists and 46 steals. After scoring at an 18.7 point clip during her junior season of 1981-82, Brown compiled one of the best all-around seasons the program had seen. During the 1982-83 year, Brown scored 583 points, a 22.5 per game scoring average. As if that weren’t enough, Brown collected 163 assists and 64 steals while shooting nearly 75 percent at the foul line as she led Montclair State to the Cosmopolitan Conference Championship Game while also earning First-Team All-Conference honors. In 105 games played, Brown scored a whopping 1,924 points and had 470 assists and 204 steals. She finished her career ranked second all-time in virtually every category which also includes scoring average (18.3), field goals (778), free throws (368) and free-throw percentage (.717).
