Anthony Peeples played just two seasons for Red Hawks, however he fashioned as fine a career as any men’s basketball player has ever had. Joining the squad for his junior season in 1997 – his first since high school, Peeples was named the NJAC Rookie of the Year and earned a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District Team. He averaged 18.6 points and 10.9 rebounds per contest while shooting 49 percent from the floor and blocking 40 shots. His 233 field goals were the second-best season total in school history and his 522 points was the eighth-highest seasons total. The following year, Peeples was even better helping the Red Hawks to the ECAC Metro Tournament championship game. He became just the second player in program history to earn All-American honors as he was chosen to the NABC First Team. He became the 21st player in MSU history to reach the 1,000-point mark accomplishing the feat in 55 career games. In addition, Peeples led all of Division III in rebounding at 14.1 boards per contest and averaged 18 points per game for a second straight year. Peeples joined Bob Lester as the only Montclair State players to average a double-double for a career (18.2 points and 12.4 rebounds).
