One of the standards by which all Montclair State pitcher have been judged since the early 1980s, Dan Olsson entered the Hall of Fame on the strength of his arm and depth of his talent. Beginning his collegiate career in the bullpen as a freshman, Olsson face 196 batters in 1982 and came away with an ERA of 5.86, 33 strikeouts and 43 innings pitched. His next season saw him assert himself as the ace of the Montclair State staff as he became a starter in 14 games, completing seven of them and finishing with an 8-4 record. In 1984 as a junior, Olsson ended the year at 10-4, was high on the team with 102 innings pitched, had an incredible ERA of just 1.67 and was named a NJ College All-Star, a Northeast Regional Tournament All-Star and a Division III World Series All-Star. Helping Montclair State to the NCAA Division III World Series, he pitched one of the more memorable games in school history as he outdueled future major-leaguer Terry Mulholland with a one-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over Marietta College. To wrap-up his senior season Olsson did not disappoint as he was named First-Team All-Conference, the NJ Pitcher of the Year and came just one of two pitchers selected to the NCAA Division III All-American Team. That season he went 12-2 and had an ERA of 2.15, striking out a whopping 117 batters in 104 innings while walking just 35.
