She may have been overshadowed by her teammates during her career, but there’s no overshadowing the accomplishments Andrea Steensen Peters achieved during her playing days on the Montclair State softball diamond. Perhaps one of the most consistent players the program has ever see, Peters compiled outstanding numbers from 1986-1989. It began with a freshman season in which she set the Montclair State single-season mark for batting average at .443 collecting 43 hits in 97 at bats. She also drove in 26 runs that year as the then Indians reached the NCAA Regional title game. She would be named the All-NJAC and All-Mid-Atlantic First Team while being selected to the All-America Second Team. The following year she helped Montclair to the NCAA Division III National tournament batting .307 with 31 RBI and 11 doubles. She again was named All-Region and Second-Team All-American in 1988 as Montclair reached the National Tournament for the second consecutive season. She became the first four-time All-American in Montclair State history in 1989 as she capped off her career batting .355 with 13 doubles and 26 RBI while also earning All-Conference and All-Region honors. Peter’s also displayed her versatility that season posting a 4-1 mark with a 1.44 ERA and two shutouts in five appearances as a pitcher. Peters finished her career with a .341 batting averaged and a school-record 37 doubles and 107 RBI. She struck out just 15 times in 495 career at bats and committed just five errors in the field. She also set the record for consecutive games without an error at 68 games, a mark that spanned nearly three seasons.
