For 28 years, John Davis has provided the highest level of athletic training care to the 17 teams that Montclair State sponsors. Coming to the MSU campus in the Fall of 1984, Davis has been instrumental in turning the Montclair State Athletic Training program into one of the most reputable, not only in New Jersey, but on the East Coast. During his tenure, Davis has also been very involved professionally, currently serving as the President-Elect of the Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association (EATA), on the NATA College/University Athletic Trainer Committee and as a NATA representative to the NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs Advisory Group. A Past-President of the Athletic Trainer’s Society of New Jersey (ATSNJ), Davis has been the recipient of numerous awards throughout his career, beginning in 2005 when he was presented as the inaugural winner of the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s Dr. Donald Grover Memorial Award. The following year, he was inducted in to the ATSNJ Hall of Fame and was also presented with the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award by the National Association of Athletic Trainers. In 2007, Davis was named the NATA College/University Committee’s Division III Head Athletic Trainer of the Year. A former Interim Director of Montclair State’s Health Center and Supervisor of the EMS, Davis was a site administrator for the NATABOC Certification Exam for many years and has seen numerous students of his go on to become Certified ATCs throughout the nation at the high school and collegiate levels. In 2010, Davis received one of the school’s highest tributes as the Athletic Training Facility at Montclair State was named in his honor - The John Davis and Dr. Benjamin Burton Athletic Training and Sports Medicine Center.
