Jennifer Tanis Gunther excelled on the lacrosse field earning three All-Conference honors. But it was field hockey where Tanis established herself as one of the finest players in the history of the program. Tanis was an NJAC Rookie and Player of the Year in the sport, a four-time All-NJAC selection, four-time All-Region pick by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association as well as being named to the NFHCA All-America Team in her senior season. In 2006, she led MSU to the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship with the most prolific season in program history. Leading the conference in points, goals and assists, Tanis recorded 23 goals and 17 assists for 63 points setting new single-season marks in all three categories. Tanis closed out her career in 2007 as Montclair State captured its second straight ECAC title. She scored 10 goals, assisted on seven others and was selected to the NFHCA Division III Senior All-Star Game. Tanis finished as the all-time leader in goals (52), assists (33) and points (137) while tallying 15 game-winning goals. Her success carried over each spring to lacrosse where Tanis was part of three consecutive Skyline Conference championship teams (2006-08) and two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. In 70 career games, Tanis scored 115 goals and recorded 180 points in addition to registering 190 ground balls, 139 draws and 116 caused turnovers. She remains the only player in women’s lacrosse history to top the century marks in all five of those categories.
