Paul Parker was a three-year varsity baseball pitcher beginning in 1969. In his career, Parker won 18 of the 24 ballgames he started which tied him for the best three-year career pitching record in Montclair State history at 18-3. Parker also struck out 185 batters in his three years which was another three-year record. A New Jersey State College Athletic Conference selection in 1971 and 1972, Parker’s greatest achievement came in 1972 when he pitched a two-hit shutout against New Haven as Montclair posted a 1-0 victory. In that game, Parker struck out the first 10 batters he faced. Selected to the NJ All-Star Team – College Division by the NJ Baseball Writers Association as a pitcher in 1972, Parker was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 1972 and was later drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the free agent draft of 1973.
